How much joy and energy do you experience in your coaching sessions—some, none, a lot? If you’re not coaching from your genius flow state, then you’re missing out on one of the most powerful and fulfilling aspects of Meta-Coaching. This state isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s the heart of transformational coaching.
That’s why Coaching Genius is included as Module II in your Meta-Coaching preparation. In that module, you were introduced to the Meta-States Model and 14 core coaching patterns—powerful tools for self-development and client transformation.
The Meta-States Model: Your Window Into the Mind
When you apply one state to another—layering thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and intentions—you create what we call Meta-States. That process brings you into the “Meta Place”—your internal world where meanings are made and frames are set. This is the territory you help clients explore.
Why does that matter? Because coaching is not just about solving problems—it’s about helping clients become aware of the very structures that shape their reality: their beliefs, values, identities, decisions, intentions, and more. And your key to unlocking all of this? Meta-questions—the royal road into a person’s mind.
Beyond the Tools: Stepping Into Your Genius State
Beyond the skills and models, Coaching Genius was designed to help you access your best coaching self—what we call your flow or genius state. This is when you’re fully engaged, present, and resourceful. In this state, coaching feels natural, responsive, and even exhilarating—whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned professional.
Ask Yourself:
- Do I feel fully immersed and in sync with my client during sessions?
- Does time seem to disappear when I coach?
- Are my skills meeting the challenge in a meaningful, fulfilling way?
If yes—you’re likely tapping into your flow. If not, read on.
The Personal Genius Pattern: Turning Flow On at Will
When you practice the Personal Genius Pattern, you’re learning to step into that state of flow deliberately. But can you do it on command—anytime you coach? If not, this is your cue to revisit the process. Find a Meta-Coach and ask them to coach you into and through your genius state until you can step into it naturally and reliably.
How Do You Know You’re Not in Flow?
Here are signs you’re still outside your genius state during coaching:
- You become self-conscious, doubting your abilities mid-session.
- You can’t recall your client’s words accurately.
- You get emotionally triggered by your client’s comments or behavior.
- Your mind is racing to fix, solve, or produce an outcome.
- You feel lost, unsure of what to do or say next.
These are clear signs that your focus has shifted—from the client to yourself. You’re no longer present—you’re in your head, worried about performance. And when that happens, coaching becomes effortful and draining.
Training Like a High Performer
Too many coaches go through Coaching Genius and experience the flow state once, maybe twice—and then never revisit it. But mastery comes through repetition. Can you snap your fingers and instantly drop into your best coaching state?
That’s the goal. And that’s why we emphasize practicing flow—again and again—until your body, mind, and emotions recognize and return to it naturally.
It’s what top athletes do. It’s what concert pianists, grandmaster chess players, and elite performers across every domain do. They train their state until it becomes second nature.
Your Assignment Is Clear
If you haven’t yet made your flow state easily accessible—now you know what to work on. Make it a priority. Revisit the Personal Genius Pattern. Practice it until it becomes a reflex. Let flow become your baseline, not a bonus.
Here’s to coaching from your genius flow state—where transformation becomes effortless and joyful.
